Any man who ever owned a computer, video store card or a set of functioning eyes has at one time seen Japanese porn. Excluding the dreaded mosaic of impotence that their smut is known for, most Japanese porn ain’t half bad. But while naughty nurses, 30 year olds in high school uniforms and innocent housewives sold to sex slavery (sexavery) to pay off their husband’s gambling debts are all well and good, most of Japan’s porn is hindered by one annoying little detail: the high pitch squeak.

No matter how old the actresses getting rammed on screen are they always moan as if they’ve yet to hit puberty. Now granted that such a technique immediately expands your demographic by a few thousand unwashed pedophiles and all, but it ruins the mood for us normal God fearing folk who want our DD nurses to fucking sound their age. It really should go without saying but the last thing anyone in the history of… everything, wants to think of during sex or some private super happy handy fun time, is the auditory image of an elementary school preteen getting a rhino’s horn jammed in her ass, which is exactly how the majority of the adult Japanese porn actresses sound like. But why is that?

Well, to get the most boring explanation out of the way, I am assuming most of you know what a larynx or vocal cords are, right? Well, they are basically responsible for the pitch of one’s voice and due to the physiognomy of the Japanese, they are genetically more prone to using a higher pitch when agitated, blah blah blah, no one cares about that, let’s talk about all that sexy cultural sexism behind the squeaks.

Let me introduce you to the concept of Yosoyuki.
Now, yosoyuki is a fascinating term in social psychology of the Japanese. OK, I lied, it’s only interesting to huge nerds like me, but I’ll keep it short. The idea of Yosoyuki is that the Japanese have various modes of speech, depending on where they are. Sounds simple enough, right? You would not drop f-bombs in front of your boss or grandma but among your friends that is acceptable. It’s not as simple in Japan. Yosoyuki incorporates not only your vocabulary, but also the tone and pitch of your voice. For example, be it man or woman, shop clerks in such places as the youth oriented Shibuya usually use a higher pitch of voice than say clerks at Mitsukoshi, a place which mostly has an older clientele. It’s all about the needs of the customer, and those needs basically boil down to Degrading One’s Social Hierarchy.

Unlike the West, Japan never really had strong democratic tendencies. In the not so distant past, you were not born equal and everybody knew that. Most knew their place in this world and never fought it, a sense of which is still very strong among the contemporary Japanese society. The Japanese still judge and observe the world through the spectrum of a social hierarchy, and well, they like to feel they are higher on it than you. This is why shop clerks in certain places will use a higher pitch of voice: because it infantilizes them, it makes them into children, which subconsciously works for the customer, but does not fly in places with an older clientele who I guess are just less douchebaggy.

So now we arrive at the root of the problem: Squeaks in Japanese porn.
To put it simply, it’s to give the viewer a sense of control over the girls. The actresses make themselves up to be weak, helpless and impossible to resist the power of the man. It works for the typical Japanese male like no Viagra pill ever could: a sense of power over the little woman. Basically, most Japanese porn is devised as a naughty power trip for the target male audience.

Now this opens up a whole new can of questions. Are Japanese men so insecure they need to feel total dominance over the women? Is it because they have gained social rights and it’s a way to “punish” them? Or is it due to some cultural trend of simply preferring younger, more vulnerable women, an illusion of which is achieved by at least sounding like one? And lastly, are the squeaks signs of borderline pedophilia that is sweeping the country?
